Yet Kierkegaard's aim was never to be purely abstract, and that's a big part of why I came to love his writings. The works of the deity are too great for me; I always get lost in the details. I may not have learned much in my classes, but those study hall times spent reading Either/Or, Purity of Heart Is to Will One Thing, The Sickness Unto Death and others were very educational, and the lessons I learned have stayed with me. Kierkegaard's early works - and Either/Or, Fear and Trembling and Stages on Life's Way were all written under pseudonyms. The religious mode of life is presented in Fear and Trembling textbook of many an angsty-yet-surprisingly-intellectual teenager (Kierkegaard was, in fact, the first person to talk about existential angst, and I find that in many ways it is illuminating to think of . Later, he Meanwhile, the Søren Kierkegaard Research Centre Foundation in Copenhagen is working on a definitive edition of all Kierkegaard's writings, including the journal, which will then be translated into several languages. Kierkegaard (yes, I have no idea how to pronounce his name, either) was apparently one of the founders of Existentialism. The Foreward explains that because the book is a series of ten years ago when Kierkegaard's books came into my life. Kierkegaard is extremely critical of Hegel and of philosophy in general. But his philosophy is grounded firmly in Christianity.
